About Darlynn Tracy-Oberg

What started as a hobby (back in 1986 / training my own dogs), quickly turned into my career, over 34 years ago in southern Maine, working with clients in their  homes…Soon, the local veterinary clinic (WVC) Wells Veterinary Clinic, approached me asking to conduct group training classes in conjunction with them . With the assistance of WVC, group classes began in Wells ME located in a small building, on the beach of all places!

Through time, I felt the need to give the business a  new name instead of simply using;

 Darlynn Tracy / CANINE COUNSELOR.

I started the Right Paw Obedience school after I arrived in central Massachusetts around 1993. I sold the Right Paw training business in 2020 after a successful 31+ year run.

My training experience consisted of Field Trial work, Agility, Obedience, Search & Rescue, Tracking, Confirmation, Earth Dog, Rally, Frisbee, FAST CAT & even Lure Coursing.  At one point I even created a stage performance  incorporating individual tricks put to music ; ‘Trouble with ‘Amazing’ Mandy (one of my first Labradors) and ‘Calamity’ Cliff (a well bred English Mastiff) MANDY was a wonderful dog with a heart of gold and a temperament to match.  Though her confirmation left much to be desired. Lets just say its a good thing I didn’t try to ‘show her’ back then.  I would have been very disappointed and may not have pursued any further within the ‘Sport of purebred dogs’.  Choosing the OBEDIENCE ring FIRST was a good choice, as I now look back.  The judges were kind and encouraging as were the competitors. It was a great place to start my journey into the world of dogs.

Like many before me, I learned the hard way, what purchasing a ‘back yard’ bred dog entails. Mandy struggled with physical ailments through out her life. Though backyard bred, she had the wonderful Labrador temperament…. What she may have lacked in looks (The classic English Labrador look),  was  certainly made up for in /as they say/ HEART.

Almost ten years ago, through a mutual contact, I met Darlynn. We were not in the market for a puppy at the time, but had been considering it. She had a very large litter, and happen to have a couple of puppies available. We went for a visit and of course had to have a puppy! From the moment we met, Darlynn was so informative and open with us. We already had dogs in the past, but were learning from Darlynn during every conversation. I always had questions and concerns, and she was (and still is!) always on top of educating me, and answering my questions. She is a top notch breeder, it’s hard to find someone that really cares about the puppies she breeds, and cares about the families that get to take them home.
A few years later, we wanted another puppy, Belhaven is the ONLY place that we would consider. So, we waited on a list to get another puppy. Just like the first puppy, the next one was just as perfect. Her dogs are not only perfect to look at, they all have the most amazing temperament and make the perfect family dog. Again almost ten years later, we have THREE beautiful Belhaven girls. AKA Violet,Rosé &Ruby

We have two labs from Belhaven and they are both salt of the earth boys!! My only regret is that I didn’t adopt one of the Belhaven labs sooner. We have a black and a yellow! Best temperament .. best family dogs … and our hearts have been stolen ❤️
